Field visits to the three countries are an important part of the project WatManSup.

July 2006: Start workshop Kenya

In July Peter Droogers and Anne van Loon of FutureWater went to Kenya. Both in Nairobi and in Kitui they had meetings with people from SASOL, the University of Nairobi, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and other important local organisations. In Kitui also a number of SASOL sand dams were visited. Photographs of this field visit can be found at Pictures.

September 2006: Consensus meeting the Netherlands

In September a consensus meeting was organised in the Netherlands. Partners of the WatManSup project gathered and discussed the progress and the plans of the project. Many interesting ideas were ventilated, giving the project some new opportunities. A field visit to the area and projects of Waterboard Hunze en Aa's was also on the program. This gave a nice overview of the Dutch water management and the use of modelling tools, INWMSM's, in planning. Some photographs of the consensus meeting can be found at Pictures.

October 2006: Field work and meetings Kenya

Peter Droogers (FutureWater) was in Kenya to undertake field work to refine and calibrate the Integrated Water Management Support tools as developed during the first months of the project. He also had discussions with project partners from the University of Nairobi. The last days of his visit were spent to present the concepts of the project at a workshop where representatives from various Ministries and local organizations were present.

November 2006: Start workshop Turkey

In November the start meeting in Turkey took place. Peter Droogers and Anne van Loon of FutureWater met the project partners in Turkey: the Soil and Water Resources Research Institute (Menemen), SUMER (Izmir) and EA-TEK (Izmir), and paid a visit to the case study area. The discussions were very interesting and fruitful. Some photographs of the fieldtrip can be found at Pictures.

January 2007: WEAP training course Turkey

In January FutureWater organised a training course called "Modeling water allocation in WEAP" (IWMSM tool WEAP: see Methods). This 3-day course took place in THAEM institute in Menemen (near Izmir). The trainers were Anne van Loon and Hetty Mathijssen of FutureWater and 16 peolpe from DSI Izmir, THAEM, SUMER (9 September University), and the Soil and Water Resources Research Institute Menemen attended the course (see Pictures for some photographs of the course). Additionally, Anne van Loon and Hetty Mathijssen paid visits to the DSI headquarters in Ankara and the Dutch Ambassy to discuss the WatManSup project.

March 2007: Final workshop Kenya

In March the end workshop of the WatManSup case study Kenya took place. The Dutch project partners of FutureWater, IVM - VU and the Waterboard Hunze and Aa's spend a successful week in Nairobi and Kitui. In Nairobi key persons of the water management in Kenya were visited and the results and possible follow-up of the project were discussed. The final workshop of the project took place in Kitui, where during two days the 24 participants of the Water Resources Management Authority, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the University of Nairobi, and the SASOL foundation joined in lively dicussions on the implementation of the WatManSup tools in Kenya. April 2007: Final workshop Turkey

The end workshop of the WatManSup case study Turkey in April was organized at the DSI Ragional Directorate in Izmir. In total more than 70 people of DSI, SUMER, Toprak ve Su and other institutes joined the workshop and the discussions. The presentations of the workshop can be downloaded at Results and some pictures are available at Pictures and at the website of Menemen Toprak ve Su. Additionally, Peter Droogers and Anne van Loon of FutureWater joined the DSI staff on a field visit to Lake Belevi and visited the project partners of SUMER and EA-TEK in Izmir.
