Water excess

Problems caused by an excess of water as a result of extremes in precipitation are increasing in many areas of the world.

The challenge

With rising populations and increased demand for land for housing planners are being forced to construct homes and offices in low lying areas where there is a higher risk of flooding. Global changes in climate are likely to increase the risk of inundations and excess of water in these populated areas but there is little clear information on exactly what the threat is.

The approach

FutureWater identifies the risk of inundation and excess water through use of quantitative simulation models and techniques and suggests actions that can reduce inundation risks.

For this purpose simulation models are used as "strategic decision support systems" and scenario analysis can be performed.
